SVG, PNG and JPG Stained Glass Patterns
Which files the tool can read, how to prepare them, and what it can export.
SVG patterns
SVG is the best format because every glass piece can be its own shape. The tool turns these closed shapes into glass pieces: closed paths, polygons, rectangles, circles, and ellipses.
- Open lines (strokes that are not closed) stay as lead lines only.
- Shapes with a solid black fill are used as lead lines, not as glass.
- Groups and transforms are kept, so a pattern from a drawing program keeps its layout.
- Text, embedded images, and gradients are ignored.
- Files can be up to 5 MB and up to 3000 pieces.
If an SVG has no closed shapes, the tool looks for areas enclosed by the outlines (Detect from outlines). Gaps in the outlines can merge neighboring areas.
PNG and JPG patterns
For a PNG or JPG, the tool treats dark pixels as the outline and turns each enclosed light area into a glass piece. WebP files are also accepted. For the best result:
- Use dark outlines on a light background.
- Close every gap in the lines. A single gap merges two pieces.
- Use a high-resolution image so the edges are smooth.
