How to Print and Cut Stained Glass Pattern Pieces

Turn a colored pattern into printable cut-out pieces at the exact size you chose.

Arrange the pieces

  1. In the pattern tool, set the paper size and the final design size.
  2. Under Export & print, choose Cut-out pieces. The tool packs every piece onto sheets without overlaps.
  3. Set the Gap between pieces (1 to 15 mm) to leave room for scissors. Turn Allow rotating on to fit more pieces per sheet.
  4. Drag any piece to a new place. Select a piece and drag the round handle above it to rotate it freely. Hold Shift for 15° steps. You can also use the mouse wheel, R for 90°, Shift+R for the other way, or [ and ] for 5°.
  5. Use + Sheet to add a page and − Sheet to remove an empty last page. Auto-arrange packs everything again.

Pieces that touch a page edge or margin turn red, because they would be cut off. Each piece keeps its number, so you can match it to the cut list and to the pattern.

Download the PDF and print

  1. Choose Download PDF. Every page has the exact size of the paper you selected.
  2. Open the PDF and choose Print.
  3. Set the scale to 100% (Actual size). Do not choose Fit to page or Shrink to fit.
  4. Set margins to None.
  5. Measure the 5 cm bar at the bottom of a sheet with a ruler. If it is not 5 cm, the printer scaled the page.
The PDF pages are images, with a resolution of up to 300 dpi. Lines look sharp on paper but get soft if you zoom in far on screen. For a vector file, use the SVG export.

Print the whole design

Whole design opens the print dialog for the full pattern on one sheet. Whole design PDF saves the same page as a PDF. Both keep the design at the size you set.
